getty villa: museum saturday

museum saturday isn't actually a thing we do but it was saturday when we went. we decided to have a low key weekend and keep the spending on the low which meant go free as you can get! the getty museums are great and free (minus $15 - ridiculous) and somehow we've never been to the malibu getty! we've heard how gorgeous it is and been meaning to go but always think about it last minute and the tickets are always sold out. sooo if you come visit LA and want to go, make sure you get your tickets online the day before (they're free but you have to have them for whatever reason).
the detail and architecture everywhere blew my mind. so did tanner with his modeling.
they had tons of marble rooms that were gorgeous.
 this statue was nuts.

tiling in the hall of herkales.
it was also really nice that the skies decided to be so blue and beautiful for us since you're going in and out of buildings the entire time. the museum design was inspired by the villa de papyri along with an archeological excavation. it's so beautiful but includes lots of stair climbing. not so fun for pregnant limbs.
 more gorgeous tiling.
(excuse blurry tan on the left) i loved this courtyard area because it reminded me of my favorite garden park ward!
tan loved it because it had real seashells.
 more stunning marble rooms.
this stumpy tree made me laugh and i hope some day it has leaves grow back. and then this garden was sooo peaceful and beautiful.
this water made me want to swim real bad.
 prettiest.
and this little kids room was the funnest to play in. all the little babies were dressing up as warriors and looking awesome and we decided to take a fun pregnancy silhouette. it took lots more effort than it should have (because i could not handle having everyone in the room look at my pregnant body!) but was still lots of fun.
tan turned into "nicklos the fierce"
and was his usual clever self and thought his glasses would make a cool silhouette. he was right.
this is from the back. for some reason i thought this perspective was important.
we toured around for a couple hours until my body remembered it never stands and walks for that long anymore and my ligaments died so we watched the 12 minute video about the making of the getty malibu and left. we took a nice drive around pacific palisades on the drive home and realized why it is one of the most ideal places to live in LA county and went home and crashed. lovely saturday if you ask me.
