despite the weather forecasts showing friday as the only day in weeks and the only day in the coming week as being rainy, rain, rain, rainy - we got together with some friends from the ward and tyler and clare to go camping in leo carrillo, ca last night.
luckily, we live on the coast so bad rainstorms hardly ever happen and they steered clear friday as well! so, minus a little drizzle here and there, everything cleared and dried up just in time for us to set up camp last night. we hung around the fire for quite some time swapping stories while kristen and court helped me make a special peach cobbler for tan's birthday in their dutch oven.
after our fire died down a little more, the peach cobbler was consumed and the air got cooler and cooler, we settled down for a long winter's nap.
it really was more of a nap for me than anything seeing as how our mattress had a whole and deflated about 99% by the time the morning came and this pregnant body wasn't handling the whole sleeping on the ground thing all that well.
we had a fun morning making breakfast, sipping apple cider and hot chocolate while we enjoyed nature and loved it even more once the sun came out and we didn't have to huddle around the fire to keep warm.
fun fact: before getting out of the tent we played the guess what time it is game and guess who was 3 minutes off. proud proud proud moment in my life.
this was fun matching tent time from target + josh and andree's make-shift tent with their sportsbrella used mostly at the beach.
tan was a master bacon cooker.
josh and andree close on the right.
kristen and court jacobsen - dutch oven extraordinaires
tyler and clare - best sports in town
thomas and kelsie - so adventurous and entertained us all with their stories from wipe-out
me and the birthday week boy - happy as clams with our getaway
after packing up camp, we headed across the highway to the beach to explore and surf for a bit.
i think it's safe to say that leo carrillo is one of our favorite beaches
ty guy was brave and tried out surfing with tan for a bit. they're obvi swapping some pretty intense surfing stories.
andree found this little seashell something treasure that is so magical
love this surfer with his favorite new birthday surfboard
we had soo much fun and just felt so happy to be californians the whole trip.
i think we're really going to miss this place.

Oh my goodness, that looks like so much fun - and I'm not even a big camper! You're a good sport for sleeping on the ground :) Love you two soaking up those glorious shoreside days.
